What is RMF?
The Rocky Mountain Freeriders (RMF) ski club was founded in 1999 by former ski-racing coach Guy Mowbray. The goal from the start has been to offer a non-competitive group that pushed the students to improve their freeskiing while having fun in the mountains. Students have gone on to coach this and other clubs and others have gone on to become professional freeskiers, but the main aim has always been to instil in the kids a lifelong passion for the sport.
While skiing with the group, the idea is to have as much fun as possible while learning to push yourself safely and shred all aspects of the mountain. Our main focus is skiing natural features on the mountain and we ski powder any chance we get! The club now offers three different programs (listed below). All three programs meet one day a week at Lake Louise and are for strong skiers who can ski all the runs there and enjoy skiing hard all-day long.
-The Young Guns (Sundays ages 9-12) program focuses on developing the skills skiers will need later to shred the mountain with the older groups. Technique is a major focus, but we'll always make sure it's as fun as possible. Young Guns are welcome to compete in the four junior big mountain contests the club attends (Red Mtn., Kimberley, Fernie, Lake Louise) or ski with the team both Saturday and Sunday at those locations during the events. There are 25 days of coaching, prizes, t-shirts, and a wrap-up party included in the club and the price is $1090.
-The Junior program (Sundays ages 12-14) will continue to offer the same coaching as the Saturday group with a few less days and no road-trips aside from the 4 competitions. Juniors are welcome to register for the junior big mountain contests we attend (Red Mtn., Kimberley, Fernie, Lake Louise) or ski with us both Saturday and Sunday at those locations during the events. We have a maximum of 21 students in this program and sold out last year, so don't wait too long. There are 26 days of coaching, prizes, t-shirts, and wrap-up party included in the club and the price is $1090.
-The Senior program (Saturdays ages 15-19) includes an extra weekend road trip (Revelstoke or Golden), a 2-day Delerium Dive weekend at Sunshine Village and a recreational avalanche course. Seniors are welcome to register for the junior big mountain contests we attend (Red Mtn., Kimberley, Fernie, Lake Louise) or ski with us both Saturday and Sunday at those locations during the events. In total there are 30 days of coaching, prizes, t-shirts, and a wrap-up party included and the cost is $1250.
