RMF, or the Rocky Mountain Freeriders, is the original freeride/freestyle, Big Mountain Ski team.
Born out of the monotony and stagnation of the race scene in 1999, the Rocky Mountain Freeriders was organized by Guy Mowbray to fill a void for young skiers searching for something more than what racing or traditional freestyle programs offered. The goal was, and continues to be, to give talented skiers an outlet for their abilities and a direction that is in all parts, creative, free, challenging and above all, fun! With those pillars in place, RMF continues to push athletes to their best in Freeskiing and on the Junior Big Mountain circuit, Slopestyle circuit or in the moguls with athletes going on to become great coaches, professional freeskiers (Eric Hjorleifson, Chris Rubens , Megan Gunning and Kris Atkinson are al-star alum) and of course, life long skiers who revel in and share their passion for skiing and the mountains.
While skiing with the group, athletes have as much fun as possible while learning to push themselves safely and shred all aspects of the mountain. Our main focus is skiing natural features all over the mountain, adapting skills for the terrain park and we ski powder any chance we get! The club now offers three different programs (listed below). All three programs meet one day a week (December- April) at Lake Louise and are for strong skiers who can ski all the runs there and enjoy skiing hard all-day long. For less advanced skiers we recommend the Lake Louise Freerider program offered through Lake Louise's website. skilouise.com
-The Young Guns (Sundays ages 8-11) program focuses on developing the skills skiers will need later to shred the mountain with the older groups. Technique is a major focus, but we'll always make sure it's fun focused and the least like a “lesson” it can be. Young Guns are welcome to compete in the Junior Big Mountain contests and freestyle comps the club attends or ski with the team both Saturday and Sunday at those locations during the events. There are 25 days of coaching, t-shirts, guest coaching, video analysis swag and a wrap-up party included in the club, the price is $1600.
-The Junior program (Sundays ages 11-14) Designed to build young skiers skills and confidence in the mountains, the Junior program will continue to offer the same coaching as the Saturday group with a few less days. Juniors are welcome to register for the Junior Big Mountain contests and freestyle comps we attend or ski with us both Saturday and Sunday at those locations during the events. There are 25 days of coaching, guest coaches, video analysis, swag, t-shirts, and wrap-up party included in the club and the price is $1600.
-The Senior program (Saturdays ages 14-19) Designed to make skiers greta, improve skills and confidence and build a love for skiing that will never dwindle, The senior program will take your freeriding to new heights, new terrain and with Back Country weekend camps (Price TBD - open to non RMFer's as well) even new places. Seniors are welcome to register for the Junior Big Mountain contests and freestyle comps we attend or ski with us both Saturday and Sunday at those locations during the events. There are a total of 30 days of coaching, guest coaches, video analysis, swag, t-shirts, and a wrap-up party included and the cost is $1800.
